Belknap is born in Damariscotta Maine. She is a daughter of David and Louise Belknap. She attended Lincoln Academy at Newcastle Maine. The acting was an area of interest for her when she was at Middlebury College Vermont. She then studied at the American Conservatory Theater earning a Master of Fine Arts degree. The credits on her television show include regular roles on Medical Investigation (related to ER and Third Watch) and The Handler, a recurring character in Deadline, and guest-starring roles in Law & Order Law & Special Victims Unit as well as Without a Trace. PEOPLE was given a joint press release from the couple, that reads: "We can confirm we've taken the decision to divorce. The decision was made mutually and amicably."
